Live From (not) New York, It's Citrus Con!
(NOTE: Citrus Con is an 18+ Event. This post is for 18+ Only! 🔞)
Citrus Con is an online-only adult convention dedicated to Boys' Love and queer media where old and new fans can mingle in a safe space, and Saturday, February 28 marks day 2. (Check out day 1 here.) When it comes to "normal" in-person cons, Saturday is usually the most important and busiest day. Peak attendance happens on Saturdays, but when it comes to an online con based in the States but open to all, do Saturdays still matter? Yes, probably. Even so, my Saturday was less hectic compared to past in-person cons. It helps that I didn't fill any gaps in my schedule with mindlessly wandering artist alley and the vendor halls while waiting for the next panel to start. I can log off and rest my eyes for a bit or...come here and update the blog. With that said, let me breakdown what happened on day 2 and how my day went.

Day 2
There were over 40 panels and activities, including repeats of a few panels from yesterday ("rebroadcasts"). Watch parties included Heated Rivalry, Love at First Spike, Kamen Rider Kuuga (the Kamen Rider agenda was strong at this con), No. 6, The Summer Hikaru Died, Arcane: Jay/Vik Supercut, and Play It Cool, Guys. Industry and special guest panels included Red String Manga, The Yaoi Shelf, Onley James Q&A, Erica Friedman, Cathexis, MangaPlaza, Renta!, and DLSite Garumani. (Honestly, DL Site Garumani is one of the few industry panels to make room in your schedule for because they have cool and talented people like Daisuke Shindo doing improv. Ear melting good voice acting. All improv.) I attended 10 panels, and since most of my faves are supposed to be archived and posted to YouTube later, I'm just going to keep it brief. My favorite panels were Whose Story is It Anyway?, Paint Along with Yaoi Bob Ross, Someone Who Values Me, and ANTH 169: Intro to Omegaverse Studies.
Whose Story Is It Anyway?: Understanding and Applying ‘Death of the Author’ in Fandom
Whose Story Is It Anyway? (rated orange) was a panel presented by Jemima (she/they) about fandom, storytelling, and creator's intent and meaning. Jemima explained various terms like "death of the author," "cannon," and "fanon," and cites case studies (like Supernatural) to reinforce learning. Overall, it was a fun and informative panel. (Jemima definitely did their research.) There was a lot of information, and I think it's an important topic especially when "problematic" authors are involved in or still creating art and people want to toss "Death of the Author" to justify their consumption. That's not what "Death of the Author" means. (That's not what that term means!!!) Learn about it and more when this panel hits YouTube.
Paint Along with Yaoi Bob Ross
Inspired by the PBS show The Joy of Painting, the panel host Genesis plays the titular Bob Ross. As you may recall, Bob Ross, the host of Joy of Painting, was a soft-spoken and chill dude who instructed viewers on how to paint. He mostly painted nature scenes filled with "happy trees." Much like the real Bob Ross, the Yaoi Bob Ross led us through an hour and a half of painting. (Unlike real Bob Ross, Yaoi Bob Ross painted with watercolors.) This is my second time going to a Yaoi Bob Ross panel (rated lemon). I went previously back in 2024, and it's just as chill now as it was then.
This time, Genesis painted a forest at night. The sky was cloudy, and the moon was full and shining upon a small hot spring surrounded by phallic-shaped trees and rocks. Steam rises from the hot spring. We could either color the handout or follow Genesis as they free paint live. I did neither and just enjoyed the vibes. The ASMR. The chat. Good times, and I hope to see them again at next con! (Sadly, this panel will NOT be on YouTube. You'll have to come and check them out yourself!)
Someone Who Values Me: Male Pregnancy, Unwanted Bodies, and Wrong Genders in “Ger” Danmei Novels and BL
Someone Who Values Me (rated grapefruit) was a panel about mpreg (male pregnancy), masculinity, and "Ger," a subgenre of danmei novels, presented by Lawn Flamingo (they/them). It was an hour long panel, and honestly, this should have been longer. There was so much information, and the presenter stuffed so much in the slides. While I was familiar with mpreg, I was not familiar with danmei and ger novels so I learned a lot. Hopefully, we'll see publishers pick up a few Ger Danmei soon. Definitely check this panel out when it hits YouTube.
ANTH 169 – Intro to Omegaverse Studies: Evolution, Reproduction, and Society
Speaking of another panel that should be way longer than 1.5 hours, ANTH 169 - Intro to Omegaverse Studies was a mock college course that approaches omegaverse as a real-world phenomenon. The best part is that the "professor" Noodlefish (she/her) has the real-world credentials to back it up. This was the most imaginative panel I've been to in a long time, and this was the second Noodlefish panel I went to. Noodlefish's panels are 2/2 thus far, and she is definitely an M.V.P. (Most Valuable Panelist) for Citrus Con 2026. My suggestion would be to break this up into "two lectures." There was so much info covered. I'd love to see more mock college courses or more imaginative panels like this in the future.
Conclusion
Whelp, that's all for Day 2. Day 3 will be posted sometime on Monday well after the con and after a good night's sleep. ~Until next time.~
