A Full Review
Sachi Maiki's I've Become an Omega Today (Kyou Kara Omega ni Narimashita) is a fluffy, "wholesome", "Baby's First Omegaverse" oneshot licensed by Yen Press. This is a boys love manga. Alright, that's a lot to unpack, but first, what the f*uck is an omegaverse? Succinctly speaking:
"Omegaverse, also known as A/B/O (an abbreviation for "alpha/beta/omega"), is a subgenre of speculative erotic fiction, and originally a subgenre of erotic slash fan fiction." - per Wikipedia.
To put it in my own words, omegaverse is a romance subgenre that features a fantasy world with rules (and tropes) to justify dudes, dudettes, everyone getting horny and pregnant based on bad wolf science. If you're still confused, don't worry about it. A lot of omegaverse manga, including I've Become an Omega Today, explains the rules and its universe in story and/or at the beginning of the book in an index of sorts. With that out of the way, let's dive into I've Become an Omega Today.
I've Become an Omega Today is a childhood friends turned to lovers type of story where one is 100% an alpha and the other is 100% a beta until...the beta turned an into an omega. Typical omegaverse story without the problematic fare. The book is rated "OT" for Older Teen and is aimed at a mature audience. The story is pretty mild in the sex department, more in line with an pg-13 movie meaning it's not very spicy. You will see no dicks or fluids spraying everywhere, but there is nudity and you do see them f*ck briefly. Also, there's no male pregnancy or babies at the end. There's no alpha rut shenanigans either. Everything is consensual for the most part except for the extra chapter at the end where the omega's been drinking. Everything ends happily ever after. Overall, it's fine. If you're looking for a sweet omegaverse yaoi with adults (they're in college), then you may enjoy I'll Become an Omega Today.
Story gets a 6/10 and a 2/5 eggplants 🍆🍆 on the spice scale.
